Synthesis is a Collect-a-Thon Platformer made to learn young people about biodiversity and the importance of nature in our world.
Return life to the ruined land of 'Neodam' and save this world!
'Synthesis' is made for young teens. The game is designed to be charming and interesting
with many fun characters and objects to interact with to keep their interest as they play.
We picked creativity over realism to appeal to a younger audience.
Gameplay
Collect the great seeds of this world, use them to defeat evil mutant-plants and reach interesting lands.
Learn the effects of the different seeds in diverse biomes and discover the power of mother nature.
Navigate through dangerous lands with many enemies and obstacles. Use your robotic abilities such as the jet boost
or the climbing gear to reach new hights.
To survive in 'Neodam' requires great platforming skills and dodging enemies and traps. Take too many hits and you
fall, returning to a previous checkpoint station.
The brown seeds you collect can be used as a weapon. Throw them with your robotic launcher and tear through the
mutated plants cursed to roam this land.
Unique
What makes Synthesis stand out is the seeds collection mechanic. Lost seeds dropped when you die can mess up
the biodiversity and create rare powerful enemies.
These enemies aren't all bad though cause mutations can
give rare seeds which might enhance your abilities. Or perhaps you might find an ally among the mutated plants.
Platform
Synthesis is designed for PC since most people nowadays own a PC/Laptop it gives the biggest audience access to
our game and gives gamers the optimal experience.
PC is also the biggest gaming platform out there,
connecting Synthesis to a bigger gaming community than we would have on consoles.
The Goal
The fallen kingdom of 'Neodam' starts of barren with no life.
It is your goal to collect lost seeds across the land
and plant them to restore the earth.
Be careful though cause this world has many different biomes
and you can't plant every seed wherever you want.
Lost seeds open up the world by creating paths to places unavailable at the start.
The deeper you go in this fallen kingdom the more you find out about the mysterious powers of biodiversity, mutations
and how they affected the previous lifeforms. Be sure to keep a bag of extra seeds so you can fight the
powerful enemies resting deep within 'Neodam'
Try out different seed combinations and become a master of
biodiversity as you fight mutated plant-life with the power of mother nature and bring life back!
Core Drives
The core drive is exploring the interesting world, with it's unique artstyle to keep player's interested.
The act of exploring the land by navigating through tough jumping puzzles using your mobility and snappy controls,
getting stronger by collecting seeds, unlocking secret areas hidden
in the kingdom of 'Neodam' and the desire to slay all the evil mutations will keep player's invested for hours.
The collection aspect works with the desire to save the world and explore it. By actively looking for collectables
players will gradually find more secrets and get more interested in the world.
The young audience will stay invested because of the overload of collectables and fun designs mixed with a
great soundtrack to keep their attention on saving the world of 'Neodam' and collecting all the seeds.
Characters
You play as the small robot 'Dididi' tasked by your master years ago to bring life back to the world.
Fight the bio-mutated plants that have been planted in the wrong areas to restore biodiversity.
Design
We picked a more creative design style with lots of fun characters and pretty colours. Since our target audience
is young teens we don't think going hyper realistic will be very appealing to them. We picked the pixelated
style cause it had a nice charm to it that many modern games are missing.
Our design choices were inspired a lot by Minecraft, Mario and Plants VS Zombies, this is also where most of our
target audience is located. We achieved it by drawing cute
faces on most of the sprites which makes the world feel more alive and fun.
In this diagram the connection between Minecraft, Mario and Plants VS Zombies fans is quite substantial.
The connection between Fortnite is quite low however, this is the reason why we didn't try to go for a more
realistic cool artstyle like Fortnite and sticked to our current friendly, fun art style.
This final element is a collection of our inspirations in terms of aesthetics and overal feel we wanted in our game.
A lot of the games are heavily inspired by nature and biodiversity.
